Recently, VQPoweredCoupe and myself decided to do some runs to see the difference between our same model cars. We felt this would help others who decide to mod their cars to see what kind of gains to expect. Keep in mind we did this around 1am on some pretty desolate roads so we tried to be as safe as possible with it.

This is the best comparison video. I "think" I got 2 or so car lengths ahead here at the end. We hit 100 before we broke.

I really think that things became more stagnant at the higher end speeds due to the CVT limiting itself.

CoupeVQ35CVT might be getting a ypipe soon so we might do this again after that time to how much of a difference the Intake/Stillen Pulley/BullyDog Tuner make.

Thats a cool comparison. Don't worry about the whole street race legal bull crap. You don't buy sports cars for the good fuel economy! I can see why the CVT tranny limits itself to top end though based on the design. What sucks about cars now is the 7spd autos vs the 6spd manuals. My 370z 6spd modded is about as quick as a 7spd 370z stock above 100mph due to gearing. It pisses me off but I knew the 7 speed was faster before I bought my car. The same goes for the E92 BMW M3. I will neve race a 7spd but the 6spds are always game lol. One of my friends has a full bolt on 2010 Nismo 370z and he lost against a stock Lexus ISF at about 130mph due to gearing alone!!

I really wouldn't doubt that sometime in the near future a car manufacturer creates an automatic transmission with 10 gear ratios that shifts under .2 seconds and it will pretty much kill anything due to gearing. If you put 4.10's in your Altima you'd have a whole different beast! I had 3.90's in my RSXS for a little while before I got annoyed from all the shifting and that thing was pulling on 350z and 06+ Mustangs because of the higher gearing.

I have quite a few funny stories about civics and scions and doing ricer fly bys even though they weren't racing us. I was opnce messing around with my friend who had just bought an 08 Corvette Z06 and were doing 20-100mph pulls. He was kicking my ass pretty much everytime as I expected he just wanted to see how it compared I wasn't expecting anything lol Anyway during our 4th pull he stopped at 100mph and I stopped at about 90mph when caught up to him and suddenly this POS Dodge Caravan flies by us doing like 110mph!! He then slowed down to see if we were going to race again as if he would be some sort of competition? It was the dumbest thing I have ever seen. lol But scions seem to have a bad rep for the ricer stuff comapred to newer Civic Si's. I am glad since I like the style of the new Si's. i am wondering when Honda will bring the Euro style to the US!

Yeah, Scions are ridiculous sometimes. I'm pretty sure it was a Scion xA that flew by us.

The Ultimate Differential

The Helical LSD enables a car to accelerate more rapidly and corner faster. How?
Simply by getting the power to the ground.

With an normal open differential, fitted as standard on most cars, much precious power is wasted through wheel spin under acceleration. This happens because the open differential shifts power to the wheel with less grip - along the path of least resistance.

The Helical differential, however, does just the opposite. It senses which wheel has the better grip, and automatically biases the power to that wheel. It does this smoothly and constantly, and without ever completely removing power from the other wheel.

In cornering, while accelerating out of a turn, the unit biases greater power to the outside wheel, reducing inside-wheel spin. This allows the driver to begin accelerating earlier, exiting the corner at a higher speed.

The Helical differential also controls loss of traction when the drive wheels are on slippery surfaces such as ice and snow or mud, providing the appropriate biased traction needed to overcome these adverse conditions. Power is transferred automatically without the use of normal friction pads or plates seen in other limited-slip designs.

The Helical LSD differential's unique design offers maximum traction, improves handling and steering, and puts the power where it is needed most. A definite advantage, whether on the track or on the street.

The Helical differential is extremely strong and durable, and since it is gear-operated, it has no plates or clutches that can wear out and need costly and regular replacement. There is no maintenance required to the unit, so you can fit and forget.

The Helical differential is great for street driving or racing. Racers don't have to put up with locking mechanisms or spools that tear the steering wheel out of their hands when cornering. Because it behaves like an open differential during ordinary driving, street drivers will have trouble telling it's there until pushing the cars towards its limits.

The Helical differential is proven in everything from SCCA Rallying to drag racing and Formula 1. It provides autocrossers with such an advantage, it has become "required" equipment for a winning effort.

And HLSD is pretty much a must if you're going to turbo, past that it is a "nice to have."

Thanks brotha! LInks work now. Bookmarked them. Will definitely have to do this when the time comes. I wonder if mine being a 2011 model makes a difference. Most of the aftermarket stuff is for the 08-10 seems like.

Same transmission for all models, all they do is slight part number revisions so you're good.

I DID get the y-pipe shortly after, but even with an ebay exhaust (not the dual fart cannons, but the single in, dual out) AND RL Ypipe, I went up against an all stock '09 3.5 CVT coupe (like mine) and we were almost even up till 80 mph, after which it SEEMED like I pulled ahead just slowly.

Moral of the story - my car sounded awesome, but was maybe .05 seconds quicker than stock.

His turbo Altima coupe though...even with 3 adults seated that thing hauls...
